Librettist Gaetano Rossi stated that, with the composition of Tancredi, “Rossini rose to glory,” although Rossini was not yet 21 at the time of its premiere. A tale of mistaken identities and misconstrued letters set against the Turkish war with Syracuse in the 11th century, Tancredi tells the story of Amenaide, the daughter of the leader of the senate in Syracuse, and her love for the exiled knight Tancredi. When her letter to the knight is intercepted and misunderstood, the innocent maiden is sentenced to death for treachery, and only Tancredi can save her. BCO is pleased to present Tancredi in a co-production with Opera Southwest.. Members receive 10% Off on the BCO website baltimoreconcertopera.com.
