Maryland Society of High School Engineering Programs - MSHSEP

As the leadership of the Engineering Society of Baltimore prepares to celebrate ESBs' 100th anniversary it has initiated a major community support education program, the Maryland Society of High School Engineering Programs. The birth of the Engineering Society of Baltimore, more that a century ago, started with the mission of community service,; specifically assisting and leading in the rebuilding the city after the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904. The development of MSHSEP is the continuation of the ESB history of service to the community.

The development of this new associate society, under the umbrella of the ESB Associate Societies Council will provide a vehicle for high schools to have students in their math; science and engineering programs participate in ESB professional activities and cultural events. It will also encourage and facilitate business/school partnerships, internships and mentoring opportunities that encourage and support students as the make important high school age program of study and career objectives choices.

The mission of MSHSEP is to provide community support and leadership for the growth of engineering programs and courses in Maryland secondary schools, promote student interest in careers in engineering and related math and science focused professions, and support partnerships between local engineering firms, local college and university engineering programs and local secondary schools. Its goals are: In cooperation with the Engineering Society of Baltimore, to provide an annual program of activity that supports student first person experiences with engineering professionals as representatives of local engineering firms in order to build high school student understandings regarding the nature of a career as an engineering professional, and to provide an annual program of activity that encourages students to enroll in college and university engineering programs, and exposes students to opportunities for enrollment in regional colleges and universities.

While MSHSEP is comprised of only Baltimore County High Schools currently, the organization is intended to serve all schools with engineering programs in the greater Baltimore community. To be eligible for MSHSEP membership, a high school must have an organized and designated engineering careers program that encourages students to pursue continuing education toward a professional career in an engineering; math or science based career.
