Order in the Court! BCO closes its tenth season with a judicial two-parter, including one of the most admired gems of contemporary opera. Described by Opera Today as "a perfect ... jewel," Derrick Wang's Scalia/Ginsburg is a witty glimpse into the unlikely friendship between U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia, and asks the question - What would happen if these two ideologically opposed judges had to appear before a Higher Power? Rounding out the evening of legal entertainment, Gilbert & Sullivan's 1875 operetta Trial By Jury is a laugh-out-loud farce about a trial in which the defendant is accused of breaching his promise to marry the plaintiff. After the defendant explains that he has fallen in love with another, and would be happy to marry them both if that would solve the problem, the Learned Judge responds with a solution that surely would be reversed on appeal!
